Hotrod Honeys Blackout Bike Race
They had this blackout bike race as a fundraiser to fund their next out of town trip to Baltimore, MD & Washington, DC. The rollergirls all travel a lot! One of the home teams in Austin, The Hustlers, just made a trip to London England to play the girls there recently (they won!). I think that may have been the first international roller derby game. Once a year there is a national WFTDA tournament for all of the best teams across the country, which is determined only by regional tournaments. That means travelling and even more travelling. This year that tournament will be in Chicago! I will be tagging along to that so I am really excited already, Philadelphia last year was a blast.
So all of this travelling means the expense of being a rollergirl adds up quick. These girls are not getting paid to play, they are all in it for the love of the game and their teams. Fundraisers are a constant need for them to continue kicking ass across the world. All of this is why I had no problem donating my time and incredible doodle skills to put together this loteria card. I drew with a fine sharpie and coloured them in with prismacolors before scanning and placing them. Can you figure out the secret Austin locations?

The bike race was a blast, by the way. Well I didn’t ride it, but I sat at Homeslice and helped mark cards for people who were riding and they seemed to be having fun. Afterwards we all had some beers and handed out the prizes at Rio Rita and everyone was really happy. Win win!
